Editorial Conflict of Interest Policy
Submissions by editors. Members of the JCAI editorial team (Editor-in-Chief, Associate Editors, Editorial Board, and Advisory Board) may submit manuscripts to the journal. Such submissions are handled entirely by an independent editor with no conflict of interest. The submitting editor has no access to the manuscript’s review records and takes no part in reviewer selection or editorial decisions.
Submissions by connected authors. The same procedure applies to manuscripts from authors who have a close connection with a handling editor, including:
- co-authors of a joint publication within the last three years,
- current or former students supervised by the editor,
- colleagues from the same department or institution,
- family members or personal relationships.
In these cases, the connected editor must declare the conflict and withdraw from handling the manuscript.
Limits. Papers authored by members of the editorial team will normally not exceed 20% of the articles in any issue.
Transparency. Published articles by editorial team members will include a note stating: “[Name] is a member of the JCAI editorial team and was not involved in the handling or peer review of this manuscript.”
Peer review. All such submissions undergo the journal’s standard double-blind peer review, with at least two independent external reviewers.
